Goatskin Shell

The outer shell is crafted from supple goatskin, the perfect balance of strength and flexibility. Tougher than deerskin, yet more pliable than cowhide, it’s durable enough to withstand seasons of use without compromising comfort or dexterity. Naturally water-resistant and rugged, the leather develops a rich patina with use, gaining character with every wear.

Full Shearling Lining

The gloves are lined with full, double-faced shearling, wool with the leather still attached. Shearling is nature’s insulation powerhouse, trapping heat while allowing airflow to regulate temperature. Unlike synthetics, it wicks moisture, keeping hands dry and comfortable through long days in the mountains. Soft against the skin, the lining moulds to your hands over time, making each pair uniquely yours.

Pre-Curved Fit

Each pair is designed with a pre-curved, ergonomic fit that follows the natural curve of your fingers and thumbs, reducing fatigue when gripping ski poles or everyday kit. Made from durable materials, the gloves start off firm enough to protect your hands but continue to break in, becoming more supple with use. The pre-curved design helps to provide comfort from day one.

Waterproof Hipora® Membrane

A Hipora® membrane is sits between the goatskin shell and shearling lining. Fully waterproof, it keeps rain, snow, and slush out while allowing moisture to escape, ensuring your hands stay dry and comfortable whatever the weather.

Reinforced High-Wear Areas

Extra goatskin reinforces the palm, index finger, and thumb, the areas that take the most wear. This reinforcement strengthens the gloves without compromising flexibility or dexterity. Every stitch is designed with purpose, built to endure years of use.

Finishing Touches

A nylon cuff seals in warmth at the wrist, reinforced with a leather pull tab for lasting durability. An eyelet and carabiner let you clip the gloves together or hang them to dry after a day on the mountain. Every feature is carefully considered, minimalist, functional, and built to last.

Inspired by the rugged life of mountain workers, Rue Gear began with a discovery: my grandfather’s time-worn, shearling-lined deerskin gloves, faithful companions through harsh Bavarian winters. These gloves weren’t just practical; they were enduring symbols of craftsmanship and character, shaped by countless adventures.

After discovering them, I searched for a modern equivalent, only to find mass-produced, synthetic designs that lacked soul and the connection to natural materials adventurers have relied on for centuries.

Rue Gear was born from that gap, a desire to make gear worth cherishing. Gloves that age beautifully, withstand years of use, and carry your story in every crease.
